Support for You

What’s My Role?

As your professor, I am here to support you in meeting our course goals. I strive to make this course clear and ensure you can see your pathway to success. Being a student involves a lot more than course work, though. I want to encourage you to be aware of and utilize the amazing resources that Kingsborough has available to you. If I sense you might benefit from one of these resources, I will let you know. If you feel you might benefit from them, by all means, take care of yourself by reaching out directly for assistance.

Student Support Services

Technical Support

Blackboard is the learning management system you will use to access all course materials.

  • If you are new to Blackboard, follow these simple steps to get started.
  • If you need assistance logging on to Blackboard, request help one of three ways:
    • Submit a help request.
    • Call 718-368-6679
    • Email: [email protected]
    • If you need help using Blackboard, try Blackboard Help or try clicking the “Tech Resources Help” at the top left of the screen in Blackboard, or “Bb Help” in the left-hand menu on our course page.
    • KCC has a laptop loan program, as well as free hotspots (click to visit KCC’S IT Services FAQs for more info).
    • Microsoft Office 365 is available to CUNY students for free (click to visit KCC’S IT Services FAQs for more info).

Campus Resources

Sometimes, succeeding in your classes involves taking care of your personal needs first (food, housing, transportation, mental health, etc). KCC has free support for almost anything a student could need.

Visit the Access Resource Center to get connected to emergency services including food and housing insecurities, mental health support, distance learning support, and more. Please feel free to stop by their office in E-115 M-F 8-5 (walk-ins welcome!) or email them at [email protected].

We also have an excellent Student Wellness Center in A-108 rooms E & F, which provides free counseling and mental health screenings, among other services.

Finally, we have a wonderful nursing staff in the Health Center in A-108, where you can receive urgent care, immunizations, and many other free health services. These services are for everyone, and they exist to help you be at your best throughout your time at Kingsborough.

Accessibility

I try to make all the materials I post on our Blackboard site accessible (for example, including captions on all videos, making documents available as pdfs, providing downloadable forms of most assignments and other resources for offline use, using alt-text for images, and formatting so that students using screen readers can easily navigate the documents). If you notice that some materials are not accessible or do not open correctly on your device, please let me know and we’ll fix the issue.

Access-Ability Services (AAS) serves as a liaison and resource to the KCC community regarding disability issues, promotes equal access to all KCC programs and activities, and makes every reasonable effort to provide appropriate accommodations and assistance to students with disabilities. Please contact this office if you would like to request such accommodations and assistance (Access-Ability Services). I will be glad to make the accommodations you need, but you will need documentation from the Access-Ability office for any academic accommodations.

Academic Support and Tutoring

KCC has excellent academic support–there are options to fit every student’s needs. Click or stop by the Kingsborough Learning Center in L-219, or email them at [email protected]. Seeking out extra support is a strategy for success, not a sign of failure. Tutoring is for everyone who wants it, regardless of whether you’re an A student or if you struggle to make a C.
